Columbia Memorial Health’s Edward Marici, D.O. is an accomplished surgeon who leads the Women’s Minimally Invasive Center in Hudson. He recently earned board certification in urogynecology.

In October 2015, Dr. Marici earned board certification in Female Pelvic Medicine and Reconstructive Surgery from The American Osteopathic Board of Obstetrics and Gynecology. The board is one of the 18 approved specialty boards of the American Osteopathic Association, which was established in 1943 and is the primary source of certification for osteopathic physicians.

Dr. Marici practices at CMH’s Women’s Minimally Invasive Center, which earned a National Center of Excellence Accreditation in Minimally Invasive Gynecological Surgery from the American Institute of Minimally Invasive Surgery in 2013.

The new board certification focuses on a specialty that is commonly called urogynecology and deals with disorders of the pelvic floor. Dr. Marici is among a small group of surgeons in the mid-Hudson River Valley and Capital Region to complete the certification exam process.

“The team at the Women’s Minimally Invasive Center can now offer patients a full range options, including leading-edge outpatient surgery techniques, to repair problems such as bladder prolapse, incontinence, and other issues,” Marici said.

To earn the certification, Dr. Marici had to complete a rigorous medical research project and pass a four-hour oral exam given by a panel of physicians. Marici is also a board certified OBGYN physician and completed a medical degree program and residency in obstetrics and gynecology at the Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine.

“We are proud to provide our patients with safe, high-quality, and cutting-edge specialty and primary care services. Like many CMH physicians, Dr. Marici is a leader in his field. With help from the staff at the Women’s Minimally Invasive center, he is providing women with the highest quality specialized care in our region,” said CMH CEO Jay P. Cahalan.

CMH’s Women’s Minimally Invasive Center offers comprehensive management of complex benign pelvic conditions, lower urinary tract disorders, and pelvic floor dysfunction. Treatments options include slings to help prevent the loss of urine during a cough, sneeze, or laugh, techniques to repair prolapse of the bladder, and procedures to treat overactive bladder and fecal incontinence.

The Center is located in the Medical Office Building on the Hospital Campus in Hudson and patients can call (518) 697-5467 to make an appointment.
