CMH NEPHROLOGY
TREATING A FULL RANGE OF KIDNEY CONDITIONS

Nephrology is the subspecialty of internal medicine that focuses on the diagnosis and treatment of diseases of the kidney. Because the kidney performs so many critical functions, nephrologists maintain expertise in primary kidney disorders, but also the management of the systemic consequences of kidney dysfunction.

Although the prevention and identification and management of early kidney disease is a large part of general internal medicine practices, nephrologists are usually called upon to assist and manage more complex or advanced nephrological disorders.

These conditions happen quickly and can cause rapid deterioration of kidney function and cause problems with fluid and electrolyte imbalance.  Although these patients are found in hospital settings, it’s not uncommon in outpatient settings as well. With proper management this is potentially a reversible problem.

Once the Chronic Kidney Disease stage has progressed to the End Stage or CKD stage V with symptoms, various options are considered like dialysis treatment and in appropriate cases referral to Transplant Center.
