The Pediatric-Friendly Emergency Department at CMH
A safe-haven for children and adolescents visiting the ED
Our pediatric-friendly ED staff is committed to providing high-quality care in a safe and welcoming environment for all children and adolescents. We are committed to reducing the stress experienced by our younger patients, including the adoption of a no-pain approach, when medically possible.
In the event that our ED experiences a large number of patients at once, or a very sick (high-acuity) patient, our separate pediatric waiting area is designed to provide a calming environment, including a television and complimentary wifi.
Teddy Bear Clinic
The Emergency Department can be a scary place for a young child. Our Teddy Bear Clinic held at Columbia Memorial Hospital aims to ease the fear many children have and make the Emergency Department a less scary place to be. Held in a separate section of our Emergency Department, children receive their own teddy bear along with an identification wrist bracelet upon arrival. They spend time meeting our doctors and nurses and familiarizing themselves with our Emergency Department while diagnosing teddy bears with broken paws or minor bear cuts.
