Knee and Hip Joint Replacement Surgery
Restoring your joints for increased mobility.
CMH strives to fully exhaust all non-surgical and minimally-invasive treatments before choosing to perform surgery. To prolong the lifespan of arthritic joints, we are happy to work with our patients non-operatively using a variety of techniques.
If a joint replacement becomes necessary, we help you understand all of your options, how prosthesis will function and what to expect before, during, and after the procedure. We use the most modern, FDA approved prosthetic devices, and the most advanced and proven bearing surfaces available.
CMH also offers computerized planning (Visionaire) before surgery to help ensure a precisely aligned total knee replacement. This process creates customized alignment tools based on MRI imagery that are designed to normalize your standing mechanical axis and balance the forces across your knee.
Joint Replacement patients have private rooms at CMH with trapeze frames on motorized beds to assist with positioning and comfort after surgery. Continuous passive motion machines and cooling machines are offered as well.
We take pain control seriously. Regional anesthesia is used whenever possible. After surgery we use several different classes of medications to make recovery as pleasant as it can be. A long-acting narcotic medication and a long-acting anti-inflammatory medication are often used on a standing basis to minimize “peaks and valleys” in pain control. Additional medications will be available to you if needed.
Non-operative options may include:
- Activity modification
- Weight loss
- Assistive devices
- Physical therapy
- Topical medications
- Oral medications
- Cortisone injections
- Hyaluronic acid injections (lubrication injections).
