CERTIFIED SURGICAL TECHNICIAN – 9580

The Surgical Services Technician is responsible and accountable for assisting
in the peri-operative care of the surgical patient under the supervision of the
registered nurse. Primary responsibility will be to perform scrub duties and to
assist in the maintenance of the surgical services area. S/he will work as a
team member to promote excellence in the delivery of healthcare in this
facility. Must possess the ability to assist in critical or emergent situations
rapidly and with efficiency. Emotional maturity with the ability to make
decisions related to job function essential. Must be able to accept
responsibility, follow written or verbal instructions, must be willing to work
under close supervision and be willing to learn new skills as technology
changes. Must be neat, well-groomed, and personable. Must be customer
sensitive, a team worker, and maintain patient and staff confidentiality at all
times. Duties include but are not limited to assisting the circulating nurse
with operating room set up, opening sterile items and selection of suture
material. Assisting in the transport, transfer, and positioning of the surgical
patient. Performing scrubbing procedures, gowning and gloving, instrument
set-ups and counts. Assists the surgeon with exposure by holding retractors and
handling instruments and supplies. Anticipating the surgeon s need(s),
preventing waste, and maintaining an organized, sterile field. Observing
aseptic technique protocols and reporting any breaks to the circulating nurse.

Education
High School graduate or equivalent. Graduation from a CAAHEP or ABHES
accredited surgical technology program and maintenance of the Certified
Surgical Technologist (CS) credential from the National Board of Surgical
Technology and Surgical Assisting (NBSTSA). Certain individuals are
grandfathered in. Clinical training with medical supplies, equipment, and
instruments required.

License/Certification
Certification as a Certified Surgical Technologist (has successfully completed
a nationally accredited educational program for surgical technologists and
holds and maintains a certified surgical technologist credential administered
by a nationally accredited surgical technologist credentialing organization).
Grandfathered in: If s/he was employed as a surgical technologist in a health
care facility for a one-year period during the four (4) years immediately prior
to January 1, 2015.



Salary Range: $17.47 – $21.10
