This position involves responsibility for assisting an occupational therapist
with the treatment and prevention of neuromuscular or muscular-skeletal
disabilities by the application of direct occupational therapy procedures to
patients. The work is performed under the supervision of a qualified
occupational therapist who evaluates the patient, develops the treatment plan
and designates specific responsibility to the assistant. An occupational
therapist is readily available at all times for direction and assistance. If
the C.O.T.A. is properly trained and demonstrates competence, they can also
conduct evaluations. Provides OT treatments within the
Department of Education guidelines; does related work as required.


Graduate from an accredited Occupational Therapy Assistant Program.

License / Certification:
Licensed and currently registered by the NYS Education Dept. to
practice occupational therapy or in the possession of a current temporary
permit pending the granting of a license.
